How Does the Premium Shower Filter Work?
A patented mixture of zinc and copper called KDF-55, plus crystal quartz, converts chlorine into zinc chloride. Zinc is considered to be helpful in alleviating dandruff and is used in anti-dandruff shampoos. Unlike carbon, KDF stands up to hot water and is very effective in filtering out chlorine, odors and dirt particles. KDF possesses strong bacteriostatic character, inhibiting the growth of bacteria, fungus, algae and mildew. The Premium Shower Filter contains 16 oz. of KDF and 2 oz. of crystal Quartz for enhanced performance and natural water softening.
How Long will the Premium Shower Filter Last? On average, the filter will last about one year. Initially, the filter will remove 98% of the chlorine. Over time, the removal percentage declines until it is at about 87% after one year. Accordingly, we recommend annual cartridge replacement. To make it easier to change the filter, we recommend soaking the entire unit in hot water (1 gallon) and white vinegar (1 tablespoon) for about 10-15 min. Take the unit out while it is still hot and turn it counter-clockwise.
Premium Shower Filter- Installation and Operation
- Unscrew and remove the existing shower head from the shower arm (1/2 in. pipe).
- To minimize water drips, wrap the included teflon tape around the shower arm and the filter (optional).
- Screw the Premium Shower Filter onto the shower arm and screw the shower head onto the Premium Shower Filter. Hand tighten only- over tightening can crack the filter housing.
- The Premium Shower Filter is now ready for use. Simply turn on the water as usual. The very first time the Premium Shower Filter is used, the water may take a minute or so to flow through.
- To replace the Premium Shower Filter make sure that you keep the O-rings in place and rub them with olive oil or petroleum jelly. You can also use the olive oil or petroleum jelly on the threads of the housing to make it easier to open next year.
